Neighborhood Spotlight: Christkindlmarket...

Our Lincoln Park location allows our guests to take advantage of some of best Chicago attractions and sights. In our “Neighborhood Spotlight” column, we’ll take a look at a few of our favorite neighbors and local partners. Today we visit the Christkindlmarket, one of Chicago’s most popular winter attractions. Christkindlmarket, Chicago’s largest open-air Christmas festival is back from now through December 23. Inspired by the Christkindlmarket in Nuremberg, Germany, which began in 1545, the Christkindlmarket Chicago brings cherished German and European tradition to the heart of the city. Located in the Daley Plaza, the Chistkindlemarket features both Chicago and German vendors. Vendors Visitors can explore German and holiday merchandise from dozens of vendors. Some of the gift and specialty items that can be found at the market include hand-blown and painted ornaments, wooden handicrafts, jewelry, and classic German products such as cuckoo clocks and beer steins. Food and beverage items such as potato pancakes, German chocolate, and other sweet and savory German fare are also offered daily. Events Throughout the month of December, the market also hosts a number of events for visitors to enjoy. Among other festivities, guests can look forward to multiple visits from the Christkind, the angel who resembles the role of Santa-Klaus in German folklore, as well as performances from several different choirs and bands. A full calendar of events can be found on the market’s Events page. Kids Korner The Christkindlmarket holds a number of family-friendly activities in which kids can learn and explore. At the market, kids and their parents are invited to partake in a scavenger hunt in which they can discover German culture and everything the Christkindlmarket has to offer.  You can download and print off the scavenger hunt here.  Also available at the market’s Timber House are...

A Presidential Vacation...

Last week, Hotel Lincoln was lucky to play host to a very special celebrity, Mini Abe. You may recognize Mini Abe from his star-turn in Enjoy Illinois’s recent ad campaign. (We are especially fond of this video, showcasing Mini Abe’s skills on the court.) Below are a few highlights from Mini Abe’s stay. We hope to have him back again!   Mini Abe enjoyed a delicious beverage with a fabulous view up at the J. Parker.                 Mini Abe and the famous lion in the lobby, a tourist favorite!                       Mini Abe ‘s favorite drink at Elaine’s Coffee Call is an Americano with a steamed milk top hat.                   Mini Abe looks out over Lincoln Park to Lake Michigan, what a beautiful day!...

Here Come the Hawks

After Sunday’s 6-2 win over the Dallas Stars, we are ready to cheer on our Chicago Blackhawks again this Thursday in their game against the Calgary Flames. Luckily for us, our hood provides plenty of places to cheer on our favorite Original Six team. Here are three of our favorite Blackhawks Bars to cheer on Toews, Hossa, Kane, and Sharp. In addition to being showing all games, both home and away, a few of them have been frequented by the players themselves. Stanley’s Kitchen & Tap (1970 N Lincoln Ave.): This southern-inspired spot is just around the corner from Hotel Lincoln, and has played host to Stanley Cup on more than one occasion. The Pony (1638 W. Belmont Ave.) As one of the city’s official Blackhawks bars, this Lakeview staple has seen its share of parties. Don’t miss out on their massive, 16 inch grilled cheese dubbed The Clydesdale. State (935 W. Webster Ave.): If you don’t want to miss a second of the ice action, DePaul favorite State has you covered with 124 flat-screen HDTVs. You can find the full list of Official Blackhawks Bars on the team’s official website.  Find your favorite and join us in rooting for our team! Go...
